Kyle drops off the voter rolls...and only the Chron knows where to find him

State Senator Kyle Janek (R-31st & Seawall Jetty) has been playing a cagey game of hooky around the Republican scene since he relocated his family into a multi-million dollar Austin mansion last June. This week brings the news that Senator Janek has either finally switched his voter registration to wherever he currently purports to reside...or an investigation by the Taxman pinged him as one of those "voters" who doesn't actually live where his paperwork says he does (interestingly enough, Kyle's spouse Shannon still apparently votes from the West U. address they vacated last May).

Whether Kyle is intentionally seeking hiatus from a weekend house cohabitation or simply strapped for time amidst his 220-mile commute to his alleged workplace back in the 17th district, the mainstream press has received nary a word from the evanescent plenipotentiary of the Texas Medical Association since the fervor over his bold stance against steroid abuse subsided.

Except for the Houston Chronicle, that is.

While other reporters linger in a trivia-induced insentience well beyond the redoubts of Pascal Lane, the communication (back)channels are said to be wide open between a certain elusive Senator and Bill White's Leading Information Source. Two weeks ago Kyle took the time to assure the Chron's Clay Robison that he would be mindful of deflecting another rival to John Whitmire's synodical machismo should the occasion arise for his replacement. Going by the regnant curbside whispers from the Strand to Texas Avenue, the good doctor is batting at the locofoco's plate once again and he's winking at the Chron guys in the grandstand.

Actually, the latest flap surrounds Kyle's legislative playmate Craig Eiland (D-Fertittaland), who's gotten the local Galveston Pachyderm club into trouble by visiting with his donkey entourage to tout his joint legislative work with the senator on behalf of Kyle's currently claimed employer. It seems that somebody in the Republican Party of Texas doesn't like Democrats to give their stump speeches at Republican organizations, so the "fairness" cavalry at the Chronicle got the the trumpet call to lecture the GOP on hospitality. Eiland's speech, we're told, was perfectly innocuous:

His speech, following the end of the 2007 legislative session, focused on changes in state law that affect the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, according to audience members, and it included praise for Republican lawmakers from the Galveston area, such as state Sens. Kyle Janek and Mike Jackson.
No word was given as to whether Kyle himself surfaced for the occasion.

Bi-Partisanship, Island Style
